By: Staff Reports Alternative Weekly To Cover Outer Boroughs
New York City is getting another free alternative weekly. This
one comes from the minds behind Ironminds.com, a Webzine that's
been surfing the tidal wave of online publishing from crest to
crash, yet is still publishing great content.
James Morrow, executive editor of Ironminds.com; Erin Franzman, a
contributing writer to the site; and Mike Vago of
Invisibleradio.com are launching metropolis to cover arts,
restaurants, and communities in what they're calling the "fertile
crescent" of New York City's outer boroughs. That includes
increasingly hip neighborhoods like Astoria and Long Island City
in Queens and Red Hook and Williamsburg in Brooklyn.
Andy Wang, editor in chief of Ironminds.com, will be an adviser
to the alt-weekly.
Morrow hopes to start publishing by late August with an initial
print run under 50,000 copies. With a bevy of former online
content creators looking for work, these three entrepreneurs will
have no trouble finding content, but they're currently in the
midst of hiring advertising staff.
Morrow said the newspaper will feature content similar to what
you find on Ironminds.com.
