By: E&P Staff On the first business day of 2005, countless people undoubtedly signed a check with a 2004 date. The Chicago Sun-Times went them one better one better Monday: It accidentally printed more than a half-dozen pages of year-end stock quotes from 2003 instead of 2004.
In listings intended to show how stocks had done over the year, the year-end prices were actually from Jan. 3, 2004. The paper said it would reprint the correct year-to-year tables on Tuesday, along with the regular results from Monday's trading.
The snafu was first reported by Crain's Chicago Business Monday afternoon.
In building the tables, the paper accidentally used ending prices from a computer with Jan. 3, 2004 prices.
Sun-Times Business Editor Dan Miller did not immediately respond to a phone message to comment on the production error.
