'Orange County Register' Web Site Gets New Look

Posted
By: E&P Staff The Orange County Register has made several presentation changes to its Web site, OCRegister.com, designed to draw more attention to news stories, multimedia content, and other interactive areas of the site.

Among the more notable changes was the addition of a rotating photo image box, with a headline and story summary below the photo, that would direct visitors to a wider variety of stories.

The paper has also added more local headlines at the top center of the viewing page (it now lists six headlines as opposed to three), as well as a scrolling news ticker for national and international news. It has also added "Staff blogs," "Columnists," and "Contests and More" as new content categories.

Below the main content promotion box are three picture windows and six more local headlines that show featured video, graphics and slideshows. The paper has also moved its Real Estate, Jobs, Cars, and Classifieds tabs to the main navigation bar at the top of the page.

"The intent of our OCRegister.com home page redesign is to make our most useful content more accessible, with a cleaner presentation and faster load times," Jeff Light, deputy editor of online coverage at Orange County Register Communications, said in a statement. "Entry points to popular features such as top headlines, blogs, columnists and contests are more prominent with this redesigned home page, which improves the overall usefulness of the site."
