By: E&P Staff Paddock Publications, publisher of Chicago's Daily Herald, will integrate its print and online content operations using solutions from Saxotech Inc., Tampa, Fla. The installation, which will include a 300-seat editorial system, will be the parent Danish company's largest print editorial site in North America, according to Saxotech Vice President Paul Harris.

The Daily Herald will use Saxotech Online in combination with Saxotech Editorial to manage planning, development, editing and production of print and online products. The Herald will also use Saxotech's hosting for its Web site.

The editorial system includes layout tools that designers and editors can use to create stories from the page, while journalists can write copy to fit. Advanced template tools can be used to create whole pages or page sections.

The Daily Herald begins installation with the online operations, where the system offers news and community publishing, which gives viewers easier access to local content and tools to interact with the paper's Web site.

Saxotech was chosen among several vendors that Barbara Jenkins, Herald assistant vice president and quality director, saw as strong candidates. She cited in a statement Saxotech's customer support and "real understanding of both the journalist side and of the business needs of growing the revenues."

"Plus, the salesperson is a subscriber," she said.
