By: Staff Reports Taloid Tries News Magazine Format
The Philadelphia Daily News unveiled a new look Monday, and will usher in editorial changes during the coming weeks. The tabloid is taking on a "news magazine" format with more original content and more columnists, since many readers get their headlines from other sources, including the Internet and TV, according to editor Zack Stalberg.
A press release from the Knight Ridder newspaper described the changes as a "rebirth for the Daily News, which is taking bold steps to ensure it continues to merit an audience in these days of media bombardment and busier reader lifestyles."
The paper said it is publishing earlier and expanding circulation in the suburbs.
To promote the tabloid's new look, the Daily News is giving away "red-themed" promotional items that tie in to the new red logo. The grand prize is a red Volkswagon Turbo Beetle.
