'Post-Dispatch' Picks Matson as its Staff Cartoonist

Posted
By: E&P Staff The St. Louis Post-Dispatch has hired R.J. Matson as its editorial cartoonist.

Matson, who does cartoons for The New York Observer and Washington's Roll Call, will join the Post-Dispatch staff full-time starting in July. He'll succeed John Sherffius, who resigned in December 2003 after the Post-Dispatch reportedly tried to get him to tone down his more liberal cartoons.

The 1963-born Matson has also drawn for The Washington Post, The New Yorker, Rolling Stone, Mad, and other publications; illustrated several books; and created the cover art for 15 CDs.

Matson, a Chicago native and Connecticut resident who'll move to Missouri in June, is syndicated by Cagle Cartoons.
