By: Staff reports IBS Increases Web Network Of Channels
Post-Newsweek Stations Inc., the broadcast subsidiary of The Washington Post Co., quickly followed in the footsteps of its print sister by announcing yesterday that it will develop Web sites for its six stations with Internet Broadcasting Systems Inc. (IBS).
Several weeks ago, Washingtonpost.Newsweek Interactive, the new media division for the company's print products, formed a Web partnership with MSNBC.com.
IBS will work closely with the Post stations to develop content for its sites.
The Post subsidiary will invest $10 million of cash into IBS for an 11% equity interest in the company. Post-
Newsweek will join the board of directors of IBS.
?We're actively building the only national network of Web channels that integrates digital and broadcast content, audiences, advertising and e-commerce services,? said Tolman Geffs, CEO of IBS.
Internet Broadcasting Systems, headquartered in New York City and Minneapolis, has built a network of television Web sites consisting of more than 40 channels. The company recently signed a partnership with Hearst-Argyle Television to develop sites for the broadcast company's 24 local markets. IBS also develops sites for CanWest Global Communications Corp.'s Canadian market.
