By: (AP) Journal Communications Inc., publisher of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, reported Tuesday that its profit rose nearly 37% in the second quarter as its new printing plant continued to improve productivity.
The company, which also owns 38 radio stations and six television stations, said it earned $20.8 million, or 27 cents per share, in the quarter that ended June 27.
That compares with $15.2 million, or 20 cents per share, a year ago. Last year's second-quarter results included a $1.5 million liability for employment-related taxes.
The company said its new printing plant, increased advertising revenue and cost-cutting measures contributed to the profit increase.
Revenues rose 4% to $208 million from $199.4 million.
Journal Communications, which was founded in 1882, went public last year and also opened a $112 million production plant.
