Promotions at Managing Editor Inc.

By: E&P Staff Managing Editor Inc., Jenkintown, Pa., promoted five managers in a restructuring of the sales and business-development departments in which the two branches are coordinated as one group to integrate sales, marketing, and business development.

Robert H. Baldwin, an MEI founder, was promoted from development vice president to senior vice president of engineering. Baldwin has managed MEI's most profitable products since 1990. He wrote many of them, including Page Director Ad Layout System. With a background in publishing and technology, Baldwin helped reduce the time from product concept to release and has been instrumental in company planning and management.

Recently promoted from vice president to senior vice president of business development, Mark F. Leister's work at MEI has covered systems support, product management, technical support and training, product management, and marketing. Leister manages MEI's financial, legal, and human resources groups and leads the business development, sales, Premium Site Support, and partner-alliance efforts. He also will oversee the new structure's integration of the product management and marketing groups.

Linda Bruce was promoted to enterprise sales vice president. Having worked in the graphic arts, prepress, and publishing software industries for more than 25 years, Bruce's career has included training and workflow consulting services for publishers converting to Mac-based pagination. She also served in corporate sales at Quark, Inc.

For the last four of her 10 years at MEI Bruce has led the business development efforts with the K4 Publishing System, workflow consulting services, and cross-media publishing systems. Her new role includes expansion and oversight of the K4 sales team.

Promoted to business development director, Mark Walter is a 20-year publishing industry veteran and former editor of The Seybold Report. An industry analyst focused on emerging media technologies, he began his career in the book and information-service markets.

Appointed director of product management at last year, Walter helped MEI build on its presence among newspapers and magazines and expand into integrated systems, custom publishing, and emerging applications for vertical markets. His new duties include adoption of third-party product lines and developing partnerships worldwide.

Recently promoted to Integrated Production Suite portfolio manager, Ioulia Popenko has project experience working with companies in Russia, the Netherlands, France, and Belgium, and has worked as a database developer, IT manager, support specialist, and advanced technology lab assistant.

In her three years at MEI, Popenko has served in training, site management, and project management. As IPS portfolio manager, she will work with product managers to incorporate new ideas from the field into the product line, as well as research, document, and negotiate custom requests and site-specific features. Popenko also will mentor MEI site managers and trainers.
