Protec Powers Free Daily in Madrid

Posted
By: E&P Staff Ahora, a free evening newspaper in Madrid, Spain, outsources all of its newsroom and advertising technology infrastructure, relying on the Milenium cross-media applications from Protec, also based in Madrid.

All advertising and editorial content is managed, prepared, and produced from the news desks, according to Protec, using servers and remote applications with telecommunication connections that meet media security needs.

Ahora's Milenium environment covers contracting, management, and filing of advertising, preparation, and production of editorial content, and automatic management of communication to the contract printing plant. More efficient image and graphic transfers, using the protocol for low-speed lines which Protec offers, helped make the project feasible.

For distribution, 80 people distribute 200,000 Ahora copies to 300 locations in Madrid in under three hours. In addition to this, copies are selectively distributed to 310 restaurants appearing in the Campsa guide, 50 four- and five-star hotels, 74 universities and residence halls, 108 office buildings, and 2,400 pharmacies.

Following the example of English-language "quality free papers" and with an emphasis on columnists' analyses and opinions, Ahora is published by Ahora Comunicaci?n Siglo XXI, started by a Seville entrepreneur and a Madrid journalist.
