Quipp Sales From Fla. to Alberta

Posted
By: E&P Staff Following on-site testing, Gannett's Florida Today in Melbourne bought two Packman packaging systems from Miami-based Quipp Systems. The paper expects to achieve substantial labor savings running Packman with its inserting lines. Packman holds products within close-coupled guide walls, producing bricklike stacks protected by kraft bottom or three-quarter wrap (optionally labeled by a high-resolution Hewlett-Packard inkjet printer), then strapped for handling during storage or distribution.

Capable of delivering 40 single-strapped bundles per minute, the portable Packman can be moved to different stacker positions. It features a detachable strapping module for easy repositioning and the Vision-Pro sensor for accurate counts.

The Calgary (Alberta) Herald's two 13-hopper (12:1) Quipp In-Line inserting systems were shipped after preliminary training on the machines in Florida. Installation is expected to be complete by June.

Meanwhile, The Calgary Sun ordered two Quipp Viper bottom wrappers, as did the Abilene (Texas) Reporter-News. The Times News, Burlington, N.C., and the North County Times, Escondido, Calif., each ordered one bottom wrapper.

Quipp Stackers went to the Wilmington, N.C., Star News (two Model 500Ws and two Model 500Cs, with bundle compression and stream-squeeze roller), the Northwest Florida Daily News in Fort Walton Beach (two Model 501Cs with bundle compression, stream-squeeze roller and Quipp Win 32 programmer), and Philadelphia Newspapers Inc. (two Model 500s and four Viper three-quarter wrappers).

Recent stacker orders also were placed by California's San Jose Mercury News, San Francisco Chronicle, and The Orange County Register; The Kansas City (Mo.) Star; The Republic, Columbus, Ind.; Boston Herald; Florence, S.C., Morning News; and Soldwedel LP, Western Newspapers, Golden Valley, Ariz.

Twin-Trak newspaper conveyor and floor conveyors were sold to The Wausau (Wis.) Daily Herald.
