Reuters announced today that it will launch digital subscriptions for its award-winning website and mobile app in early October. The subscription plan will be available to users at a globally accessible price of $1 a week, allowing cost-efficient, unlimited access to Reuters trusted, accurate and unbiased news coverage. The pricing plan is simple and transparent. There are no introductory offers or surprise price increases.
173 years ago, Reuters was founded on the principle that people needed a trusted source to stay informed about is happening around the world. This need has never been stronger as misinformation, slanted viewpoints and unreliable news sources are on the rise, making it harder to know what’s real and who to trust.
“Reuters is on the front lines of conflicts, navigating the halls of government, and reporting from inside corporate boardrooms around the world. That is why the world’s news outlets, financial institutions, companies, governments and consumers rely on us to deliver the truth. We take that responsibility very seriously,” said Reuters President Paul Bascobert. “Trusted, unbiased, agenda-free news is essential in an era rife with misinformation. This new subscription plan ensures Reuters can expand the reach of its award-winning coverage at an affordable price, while allowing us to further invest in our reporting and products for subscribers.”
Reuters website and app users will be able to access a limited number of articles per month before receiving an offer to subscribe. Digital subscriptions will be available first in Canada, followed by multiple countries in Europe and the United States with plans to expand globally. This phased roll out will allow for a seamless user experience. Users get transparent subscription pricing with no up-front discount periods, step-ups or surprises, and they can easily cancel at any time.
The newly relaunched Reuters app and its accompanying website provide users high-quality, credible and reliable news, provided by Reuters 2600 journalists globally. Reuters extensive newsroom footprint, operating in 200 locations around the world, ensures users receive comprehensive coverage of the most important global events, leaving no corner of the world unreported. Its adherence to the Thomson Reuters Trust Principles guarantees users receive journalism produced with the utmost integrity, delivered without bias or agenda.
