WASHINGTON, D.C. — NPR announced the appointment of David Berzin as senior vice president, Product and Data. Berzin brings experience across global media companies and mission-driven startups, building products that connect people with information and services they value. His appointment supports NPR's work to serve changing audience needs and strengthen connections with its journalism, music and cultural programming.
"Serving our audiences means bringing the same ambition and curiosity to our digital products that we bring to our journalism and storytelling," said Ryan Merkley, NPR's chief operating officer. "David brings a combination of product leadership, technical expertise and experience working across networks of media brands. He understands how to build for people's everyday needs, and I'm excited to welcome him to deepen our relationships with audiences and sustain NPR's public service mission."
"I've spent my career building products at big media companies and mission-driven startups," said Berzin. "NPR is the rare place that brings together that focus and sense of purpose. I look forward to partnering with our member stations and continuing to make NPR's journalism, music, and storytelling something people choose every day."
As senior vice president, Product and Data, Berzin will lead the digital evolution of NPR's product and data strategy, ensuring its journalism remains accessible, discoverable and engaging. He will be responsible for building best-in-class, audience-facing products that drive engagement and revenue diversification as well as the data-sharing infrastructure that underpins NPR's product and Network tools.
Berzin joins NPR from Hearst Magazines, where, as vice president, Product, International, he expanded its audience platform across its international portfolio and led AI initiatives for technology teams and editors. Previously, he built audience measurement, identity and advertising products at Viacom and led MTV's social platform and early partnerships with emerging social networks. His experience also spans mission-driven health startups, including product leadership roles at Vori Health, Parsley Health, and Mindbloom. He began his career launching digital video for The New York Times, WhiteHouse.gov and Condé Nast.
