By: E&P Staff RiseUp magazine, the weekly magazine about race and ethnic issues distributed in 11 Sunday newspapers, has suspended publication until the fall.
The magazine was launched June 22, and stopped publishing with its Aug. 3 issue to prepare for expanded distribution, Publisher Janice S. Ellis said in a note to readers.
"To meet the extra demand, we are pausing to address the need for additional printing and transportation capacity," the note said. "Printers need time to secure the paper required and make necessary shipping arrangements. We estimate that it will take another 4-6 weeks to get these agreements in place. Therefore, you should receive your next issue of RiseUp in late September, early October."
RiseUp is based in Kansas City, Mo., and printed by The Kansas City Star.
The supplement has a circulation of more than 4 million through distribution of newspapers including both Chicago dailies,
the Washington Post, New York Daily News, and Cincinnati Enquirer.
Ellis' note said the publication "has struck such a positive chord with readers across the nation, we have received multiple requests from additional newspapers asking that RiseUp be inserted in their papers."
RiseUp expects to expand its circulation to more than 7 million, the note added.
