By: E&P Staff The E.W. Scripps Co. reported today that consolidated revenue for January increased 14%, to $185 million, compared to the same period last year.
At the company's newspaper division, January revenue grew 9.8% to $60.7 million. January 2005 included five Sundays compared with four Sundays in January 2004.
Advertising revenue increased 11.4% to $47.5 million. Local advertising was up 1.8% to $13.5 million. Classified rose 12% to $19.4 million. National increased 14% to $3.5 million.
The company's share of profits from its four joint newspapers operations (before editorial costs) was $5.3 million compared with $4.2 million for the same period last year.
At the Scripps Networks division, revenue jumped 28% to $61 million. Advertising revenue was up 31%.
