SPJ Expands Online Journalism Awards

By: The Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) has expanded the online category of the Sigma Delta Chi and Mark of Excellence Awards from four to 18.

"As online journalism becomes a more important part of our craft, it should become a more important part of SPJ's awards programs," said SPJ President Al Cross, reporter and columnist for The Courier-Journal, Louisville, Ky.

Half of the online categories for the SDX Awards are for stand-alone Web publications, with the other half for Web sites affiliated with traditional media. In addition, the awards for photography, art, and graphics are now open to work published online.
