'St. Pete Times,' 'Sac Bee' Name Web Execs

By: The St. Petersburg (Fla.) Times and The Sacramento (Calif.) Bee recently appointed executives in their new-media operations.

In St. Petersburg, Christine Montgomery will become director of electronic publishing July 28. She is currently a deputy managing editor at USAToday.com. Montgomery, 36, will oversee sptimes.com and tampabay.com.

In Sacramento, the Bee promoted Ed Canale to vice president of new media and strategic planning. Previously director of new media and strategic planning, he will continue to report directly to Janis Besler Heaphy, publisher and president of the newspaper.

"Creating this new position reflects the growing importance of the Internet to our business," said Heaphy. "Ed has earned the promotion based on his leadership in new media and the division's impressive results."
