By: E&P Staff The age discrimination lawsuit filed against the Minneapolis Star Tribune by Lou Gelfand, the newspaper's former reader's representative, will soon be settled.
The imminent settlement follows an order for dismissal last week by U.S. District Judge Joan Ericksen that closes the case following the end of a 45-day window. During that time, parties were able to file a request to reopen it if they cited good cause.
Gelfand alleged in the suit that the Star Tribune pressured him to leave in May 2004 after spending nearly 23 years in his post. He said the newspaper offered him a reporting job, but he was not qualified for the position. The paper denied his allegations.
Terms were not disclosed .A message seeking comment that was left at the phone number listed for Gelfand was not immediately
returned. A newspaper official declined to comment
about the reported settlement, the Star Tribune said.
