By: E&P Staff The Minneapolis Star Tribune ran a note in Saturday's paper warning readers that they might not like the "La Cucuracha" comic referencing last month's Red Lake Indian Reservation shootings.
In the Universal Press Syndicate strip, cartoonist Lalo Alcaraz showed a teacher asking his class: "What do you think President Bush might have said to console the Native American victims of the Red Lake Reservation school shooting?" One student guesses: "I'm really so sorry you're not an Anglo suburban reservation." Another says: "You shoulda stuck to arrows." A third student guesses: "Pow? Wow!"
Alcaraz could not be reached for comment today by E&P.
In its note, the Star Tribune said the topic of the comic didn't come to light until a preprinted section of the paper had been completed.
Several weeks ago, the Duluth (Minn.) News Tribune apologized for a syndicated editorial cartoon about the shootings (E&P Online, March 31).
