By: E&P Staff StarKey Software of Brea, Calif., has upgraded the Presstimator, its standalone estimating application for web offset printing. Version 1.5 expands functionality with features requested by newspapers and commercial printers.
Presstimator now handles straight versus collect job run configurations. If at any time within a quote a user indicates that a section is running straight or collect, all related components are adjusted accordingly. With the new multiple plates feature, users can enter an unlimited number of plate types in Shop Settings and assign each to a specific press. When a particular press is selected within a quote, the corresponding plate is automatically selected.
Version 1.5 also offers new job formats, more computer-to-plate functionality, more defaults for complete quoting in a minute or less, and more toolbar buttons for easier navigation.
The Presstimator prompts the user for detailed job specs with a stepwise, question-and-answer interface. Costs and settings can be adjusted at any time to create reliable estimates for shops and jobs of all sizes. The Auditor checks for missing information.
