STMG Warns of Scam

By: The Sun-Times Media Group (STMG) issued a warning to Chicago-area residents about a scam involving one of its magazines.

A company called Publishers Periodical Services invoiced several subscribers and residents over the holiday weekend asking for payment for NorthShore Magazine.

STMG publishes NorthShore, which is distributed for free.

The bill requests a payment of $15 for a one-year subscription and $30 for three years payable to PPS at a Las Vegas address.

STMG said that reports of the fraud have come from the areas of Glenview, Morton Grove, and Northbrook. STMG executives have contacted the authorities about the scam.

"NorthShore magazine is free to subscribers in metropolitan Chicago and has been free for almost two years," Larry Green, president and publisher of the Sun-Times News Group's Pioneer Press, said in a statement. "Under no circumstances should anybody respond to this offer."
