By: E&P Staff Ethnic newspapers, TV, and radio now reach 64 million people -- with about half of the 64 million favoring ethnic media over mass media, according to a study.
But only 3-4% of advertising dollars go into ethnic media, said Sandy Close, executive director of New California Media, which commissioned the study along with the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights Education Fund and the Center for American Progress.
The ethnic-media study was the subject of a story from the Inter Press Service news agency.
Another story from the news agency reported that IPS just celebrated the 10th anniversary of its Tierramerica publication and the 10th anniversary of its Latin American regional headquarters in Montevideo, Uruguay. Attendees at the IPS birthday event included Uruguayan President Tabare Vazquez and Montevideo Mayor Adolfo Perez Piera.
Tierramerica is a weekly news supplement, published by 20 newspapers in 11 Latin American countries, covering the environment and sustainable development.
IPS is distributed in the United States by the New York City-based Global Information Network.
