By: E&P Staff Newspaper ads promoting Sunshine Week, March 12-18, are available for download online, the American Society of Newspaper Editors (ASNE) announced Friday.

The print ads can be downloaded at www.sunshineweek.org/sunshineweek/ads06 in two versions. One includes room for a newspaper's name or logo, while the other runs with just the Sunshine Week logo. Both are available in color or black and white.

Also on the site is an undated ad about "Your Right to Know" that can be used all year.

ASNE, Sunshine Week's lead organizer, has also posted opinion columns that newspapers can run free of charge. The submission include columns from Hodding Carter, Robert Freeman, Lee H. Hamilton, Sen. Richard Lugar, Rep. Mike Pence. The columns, which include headshots of contributors can be downloaded at http://www.sunshineweek.org/sunshineweek/toolkits#Opinion%20Columns.

A 72-page booklet of examples of how to mark Sunshine Week is also available at http://www.sunshineweek.org/sunshineweek/brightideas06.

This is the second annual Sunshine Week in which newspapers are urged to focus attention on the importance of public access to documents and meetings at all levels of government, and other Freedom of Information issues. The range of participants has expanded this year, ASNE said, to include civic groups such as the League of Women Voters, as well as libraries and schools.

The national Sunshine Week effort is funded by a grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
