By: E&P Staff Tensor Group Inc., Woodridge, Ill., installed two shaftless-drive Tensor model T-400BE four-high press towers at two Turkish sites -- Zaman Newspapers plants in Istanbul and Ankara.
The Zaman locations needed four-high units that could be easily added to their two Heidelberg Mercury presses, tracking their speed while printing color. Tensor's T-400BE shaftless drive models were redesigned to use the same plates as the Heidelberg units. Cutoff changes also were required. The press additions have been running since last month.
"Adapting our products to all types of press equipment is very much a part of our business," Tensor President Don Gustafson said of the Saman sale, adding that Zaman observed operating Tensor units at Aksam Newspapers in Istanbul.
Tensor said its T-400BE web offset press' 100% helical drive gear train "virtually eliminates dot distortion." The press is rated at up to 45,000 pages per hour, offers fast make-ready, and features quick "no-tool" plate changing. Bearers on plate and blanket cylinders and Tensor's "bearing-in-a-bearing" eccentric design "provide optimum dynamic support of the blanket cylinders, reducing print disturbances according to Tensor.
