Tess Owen named as senior writer on WIRED politics desk

Posted

I'm thrilled to share that Tess Owen is joining WIRED as a senior writer on the politics desk.

Tess is a powerhouse journalist, whose work you've likely seen not only in WIRED but the New Yorker, New York Magazine, and the Guardian. She has investigated everything from Jan 6 rioters running their jail block like a gang to the rise of Katie Miller. Most recently, Tess has been a senior video correspondent at the Wall Street Journal, reporting from Minneapolis at the height of the ICE occupation. Before that, she spent several years at Vice covering the far-right and extremism.

At WIRED, Tess will be covering how money and technology — and the intersection of those two forces — are reshaping the political landscape. She joins us at a critical time; the midterms are a month away. And regardless of their outcome, efforts to influence the political system from the inside and out — whether by tech billionaires or reactionary political movements — will only become more pronounced.

Tess starts today in the New York office and reports to Leah Feiger. Please welcome her on Slack or in person!
