The Globe and Mail Announces New Editorial Leadership

Toronto-- The Globe and Mail has announced new editorial leadership team for its print and online features content, covering arts, style, travel, real estate, and focus, as well as the weekend newspaper.

The new team includes:

Kevin Siu, executive editor/features.  Since relaunching Globe Life online last year, Siu has led the digital charge for features, overseeing the creation of new features and video franchises and driving some of the Globe’s most successful initiatives. Under Siu’s watch, online readership of the Globe’s Life content has grown by more than 75 percent in one year. In addition to Life, Siu will assume oversight of style, travel, real estate and arts, both in print and online, where integration continues to grow.

Gabe Gonda, arts editor. Gonda, who joined publication in 2010 as weekend editor, has worked with writers across the newsroom and beyond to lead the focus section with smart, provocative, long-form and point-of-view journalism. Gonda was instrumental in bringing together the artists K'naan and Bono to provide their insight and perspective on the famine in Somalia at a Globe and Mail event last summer. Prior to joining the Globe, Gonda covered numerous beats for the Toronto Star, before becoming Insight editor. Gonda begins as arts editor on Feb. 6.

Julie Traves continues as deputy arts editor, with an expanded mandate to enhance the Globe’s cultural presence in digital media. Working with Siu and Gonda, Traves will set a clear direction for Arts online, including new video and community initiatives and other digital-only content.

The Globe also announced the appointment of Carol Toller as weekend editor. Toller’s responsibilities will include creative direction and oversight of the popular weekend paper and focus section. Carol joined The Globe in 2003 from the Vancouver Sun, where she was editor of the arts and Saturday features sections. She has been editor of the Saturday Globe T.O. section, deputy editor of report with Business magazine, editor of focus and most recently, deputy life editor. Toller begins her new role on Feb. 13.
