The New York Times hires two new reporters on Tech team

We’re thrilled to announce that Cory Weinberg and Grace Kay are joining the Tech team. Cory will cover the artificial intelligence company Anthropic in San Francisco. Grace will cover Elon Musk’s A.I. efforts and be based in New York.

Cory is joining from The Information, where he worked for a decade, most recently breaking a string of stories on Anthropic. A native of South Florida, Cory got his first taste of The New York Times as a story subject in 2013, when the college newspaper that he led at George Washington University, The GW Hatchet, became an example of a campus publication navigating financial difficulties. He took his interest in how money shapes places and institutions to The San Francisco Business Times, where he covered tech companies’ scramble for real estate and the region’s housing woes during the mid-2010s tech boom.

He then joined The Information, where he stood out covering the rise of Airbnb and the rise-and-fall of WeWork. He was a Knight-Bagehot fellow at Columbia University, where he also earned his M.B.A., before returning to The Information to help lead its expansion into Wall Street coverage. He returned to California last year.

Grace Kay

Grace is also joining from The Information, where she covered Tesla and SpaceX and has distinguished herself with numerous exclusives and original reporting. Before The Information, Grace spent five years at Business Insider covering Mr. Musk’s businesses, breaking news on xAI’s work with Cursor, investigating the company’s efforts to shape Grok’s political views, and reporting on the internal challenges facing Tesla’s self-driving program. She also previously interned at Bloomberg, where she covered metals (especially copper and lithium) and mining (including lithium mining and mining strikes).

Grace, who grew up in Michigan, studied film at the University of Michigan. That’s also where she got her start in journalism, writing for The Michigan Daily about local politics and the City Council, and eventually becoming the paper’s co-managing news editor.

Please join us in welcoming them.
