An announcement from Features Editor Amanda Finnegan and Editor Carla Spartos:

We’re thrilled to announce that Amber Ferguson has joined the Features department as a rapid response culture reporter, covering trends and news through both text and video.

Amber was most recently a senior video journalist on the General Assignment desk, where she produced a story and video about couples getting married next door to Donald Trump’s Manhattan criminal trial; traveled on Vice President Kamala Harris’s swing state tour; led production of a live election night show from Howard University; and reported outside of Sean “Diddy” Combs’s sex trafficking trial. Since joining The Post in 2017 from HuffPost, she has lent her reporting and video skills to a variety of teams, including Morning Mix and Metro. Her first story and video in Features dug into the rise of the $6k sorority rush consultant. Amber’s reporting often begins in overlooked corners of the internet: group chats, niche online communities or emerging subcultures. Through stories such as couples going on “buddymoons,” Botox for hair edges or adults starting lemonade stands to pay off debt, Amber connects personal narratives to broader social questions.

In 2022 she was awarded a Gracie Award from the Alliance for Women in Media Foundation for her investigation into women caring for paralyzed partners, a story that led to overturned insurance denials. Her project on the shortage of Black sperm donors, a piece that spotlighted the inequities Black women face in building families through fertility treatment, earned second place from the Society for Features Journalism. She was also part of the team recognized by the National Press Photographers Association for her 2024 Deep Reads story on adoption and abortion in post-Roe America.

Amber grew up as a military brat and earned her associate degree from Prince George’s Community College before graduating from the University of Maryland at College Park with a bachelor’s in history and a minor in U.S. Latino/a Studies.
