Three Journalists Held Captive in Afghanistan Released

By: Britain's Guardian newspaper says three of its journalists who had been held captive in Afghanistan for six days have been released.

In a statement Wednesday, the newspaper said the three -- including reporter Ghaith Abdul-Ahad, and a cameraman and fixer who are both Afghans -- were unharmed.

Alan Rusbridger, the newspaper's editor-in-chief, says it "is another illustration of the dangers facing journalists trying to report in many difficult parts of the world."

The newspaper reported that the three were working in the area bordering Pakistan's North-West Frontier province and had been planning to interview militia. The paper reported that Abdul-Ahad last contacted The Guardian Dec. 9, and that the paper was informed of the kidnapping two days later.
