To enhance control system technology for its range of Speedliner 2.0 in-line stitching systems, Tolerans has partnered with DCOS (Drive-Controls-Operator Systems).
Nine months later, the two Swedish companies delivered a prototype that is now a commercial success at Norway's Ålgård Offset A.S., where Production Manager Tom Undheim said in a statement, "The control system is almost deceiving; highly sophisticated but at the same time simple to operate and manage, which results in an efficient stitching process."
The partnership minimized lead time, eliminated any learning curve and benefited from the "experience of DCOS in developing controls systems for machines in the graphics industry," said Tomas Annerstedt, head of R&D at Tolerans.
The control system is part hardware and part user interface. The control panel has been upgraded for ease of use, with several optimized features, according to Tolerans. Improved remote control allows Tolerans to monitor stitching machines installed anywhere. Maintenance can be managed more efficiently because information is sent automatically from a stitcher to the service department.
DCOS offerings include drive controls, control desks and closed-loop systems, as well as operator-interface and production-management software.
The companies' relationship will expand, further improving the control system and working on new products, according to Tolerans.
