By: E&P Staff The Tracy (Calif.) Press is cutting back to twice-weekly -- but it says the unkindest cut was an E&P account on Wednesday that got its circulation wrong by half.
The free distribution paper circulates 19,350 copies on Wednesdays and Saturdays, said Publisher Robert Matthews.
Daily newspapers in the San Francisco Bay area picked up on the E&P story, and have repeated the circulation error, Matthews said. "It's tough enough without your help thrown in," he wrote E&P.
In a note to readers when the paper moved from thrice-weekly to twice-weekly frequency, Matthews said the action was mandated by a slow economy.
"The Press has been in business for almost 110 years, as a weekly and as a daily, and our family doesn't plan to go away anytime soon," he wrote. "But to keep going, we have to make cuts at the same time that we strive for solutions."
