By: Dave Astor Tribune Media Services executive John Twohey will be leaving his TMS post on June 20, the Chicago Tribune's Phil Rosenthal reported today.
Twohey, a 31-year Tribune Co. veteran, is vice president for news and features at TMS. He'll be succeeded by Gerry Kern, who'll also retain his current responsibilities as vice president of editorial for Tribune Co.'s publishing division.
The departing Twohey joined the editorial department of the Chicago Tribune in 1977, and went on to hold positions such as associate managing editor for features, sports editor, Sunday magazine editor, Op-Ed page editor, and design director. He was vice president for editorial and operations at TMS before being promoted to his current position last year.
Earlier in his career, Twohey served as press secretary for R. Sargent Shriver's 1972 Democratic vice presidential run and for Sen. Fred Harris (D-Okla.).
TMS was also in the news yesterday when Rosenthal reported that the Tribune Co. might sell TMS' TV listings business.
The syndicate's features also include columns by Arianna Huffington, Garrison Keillor, Leonard Pitts Jr., and Cal Thomas; editorial cartoons by Matt Davies, Walt Handelsman, and David Horsey; various comics; and more. In addition, TMS markets McClatchy-Tribune Information Services.
