Tribune Probes Circ Chainwide

Posted
By: E&P Staff The Tribune Co. of Chicago will conduct a review of circulation practices at all 14 of its newspapers, according to published reports.

Last week, the chain cut reported circ at Newsday of Melville, N.Y., and Hoy, the Spanish-language newspaper with editions in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago. A Newsday circulation executive was placed on administrative leave after circulation was allegedly overstated during 2002 and 2003.

Tribune officials say they don't believe their are problems at any of the other newspapers. "We're in the process of reviewing our circulation procedures ... to make sure that they are the best they can be," a Tribune spokesman told the Los Angeles Times.
