By: Two men have admitted their roles in an unprovoked attack on a veteran journalist, city prosecutors said.
The victim, Carl A. Schoettler, 75, a reporter for The (Baltimore) Sun, suffered severe head injuries and was hospitalized for a week after the February 2006 attack.
Latar C. Bradshaw, 23, pleaded guilty to first-degree assault and conspiracy to commit robbery. Gregory G. Kulla, 37, pleaded guilty to second-degree assault and being an accessory after the fact. Sentencing for the two is scheduled for January.
A third defendant, Phillip M. Carter, 19, pleaded guilty in April to two assault charges and was sentenced to 30 years in
prison.
According to prosecutors, Carter was standing at a bus stop with Bradshaw when Schoettler was involved in a minor traffic accident with Kulla. After Schoettler got out of his car to speak with Kulla, Carter attacked him and split Schoettler's money with Bradshaw.
Prosecutors said Kulla, who did not know the two men, did nothing to stop the attack, then agreed to drive Bradshaw and Carter away from the scene.
