By: Staff reports Black, Dobbs Dueling For News Service
United Press International has two new suitors, according to a report in the New York Post yesterday.
The newspaper said that Hollinger chief Conrad Black and former CNNfn head Lou Dobbs are bidding on the Saudi-owned news service. UPI staffers reported that the current owners, ARA Group, told employees that the company is up for sale and that Black and Dobbs, currently at Space.com, are bidding. No timetable was revealed at the meeting with staffers.
The London-based ARA Group acquired UPI out of bankruptcy in 1992 for $3.9 million.
UPI's current strategy is to provide news to Internet customers.
