'Wall St. Journal' Ad Lineage Up

By: E&P Staff The Wall Street Journal announced an increase in advertising lineage, up 1.4% in May. Year-to-date the paper is up 5.5%.

General advertising increased 16.2% due to strong gains in travel, corporate, aviation, health care, professional services and media advertising. However, two of the paper's most important categories, financial and technology advertising, are still in the doldrums. Advertising lineage for technology fell 19.8% and financial advertising decreased 9.1%. Classified/other linage is up 3.8%.

Dow Jones & Co.'s May numbers were in line with expectations, according to Merrill Lynch. The investment firm raised its second quarter EPS (earnings per share) estimates by $0.01 to $0.38 per share.
