The Washington Post, Washingtonpost.Newsweek Interactive, and Post Newsweek Tech Media Group launched Washtech.com Thursday. The new site is designed for Washington-area residents who work in the technology industry.

The site can be reached at its own URL or through washingtonpost.com. News and features will cover the local tech market, including IT, telecom, venture capital, biotech, the Internet, and, this being Washington, public policy.

"With thousands of young companies, emerging new leaders and a booming job market, technology has changed the way business operates in Greater Washington," said Christopher M. Schroeder, CEO of Washingtonpost.Newsweek Interactive.

Interactive features including technology event calendars, nightly audio round-ups, tech job listings, live discussions, message boards, and an e-mail newsletter.

Meanwhile, The Washington Post print edition is introducing a Washtech feature in the business section. The new "Washtech" page will run every weekday and focus exclusively on local technology news and information.

The new site will be published by Valerie Voci, who is also publisher of Newsbytes (R) news service. The editor is Bob Woods, who also comes from Newsbytes.com. Jill Dutt, the assistant managing editor-business at the Post, will oversee the newspaper's daily "Washtech" feature.
