By: E&P Staff Marcia Slacum Greene has been named city editor of The Washington Post.
A reporter and editor at the Post for 22 years, Greene most recently was its assistant District editor for politics and government. In her new capacity, she will oversee the Metro section's D.C. staff.
Greene is no stranger to the issues that affect her city. When she joined the Post in 1983, she covered District assignments that included housing and social services as well as politics. She also has reported on the effects of drugs and violence.
When Greene was named a city desk editor in 2004, the first story assigned to her was about the discovery of high levels of lead in the District's water supply. The Post's continued pursuit of that story earned the newspaper the 2005 Selden Ring award for investigative journalism.
Before joining the Post, Greene held positions at The Philadelphia Inquirer and the St. Petersburg (Fla.) Times.
