By: E&P Staff Washingtonpost.com, which has won many online awards -- including "EPpys" fro m E&P -- earned its first national award in what is normally thought of as a TV competition. It won an Emmy on Monday night for its video coverage of Hurricane Katrina.
The award was accepted by Travis Fox, a senior video journalist at the site, who had "explored issues including life in flooded New Orleans and the return of residents to Jefferson Parish, a suburb of the city," the Post observed.
The award, for "outstanding achievement in content for non-traditional delivery platforms," was the first of its kind for video created specifically for new media. Other nominated video journalism came from The New York Times, MTV and National Geographic.
The award showsthe "power and potential of multimedia storytelling on the Web," Jim Brady, washingtonpost.com executive editor, said in a statement.
