Jeremy Abbott of San Francisco was out skating on Payette Lake over the weekend of January 18-19 among the crowds of people that took advantage of the frozen lake. The two-time Olympian competed in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada and the 2014 games in Sochi, Russia where he won a bronze medal for team mixed figure skating.

On October 18th, Lely High School Trojan Nino Joseph made an 80-yard touchdown before being taken out with a shoulder injury. Joseph is the leading local rusher in the Naples, Florida area, with over 1600 yards. Showing support on the sidelines is Beth Coleman before Joseph went to the hospital. Coach Ben Hammer was intent on checking his status with doctors after the game.

The Ruby View Golf Course was covered in a thick blanket of snow on January 11, 2024. The golf course in Elko made for an interesting morning walk following a snowstorm. Trees, signs and even flags peek above the snow, and some signs of life, like paw prints, let those walking by know they were not alone. The National Weather Service said there was a chance of rain or snow expected later in the week.

Candi Phillips of Rosenberg, Texas dressed as a slave during a Juneteenth ceremony hosted by Attack Poverty on Saturday, June 17th in North Rosenberg, Texas. She sang a song about change and changed out of her slave clothing and shackles into a graduation gown and then a doctor’s white lab coat — all possible, she says, thanks to God’s love. Phillips also had on display a large collection of authentic slave shackles, leg bracelets and chains, as well as original slave auction posters and newspaper clippings.
