STEWART MACDONALD, 74, a former executive of the American Newspaper Publishers Association, died April 14 of non-Hodgkins lymphoma in Leesburg, Va. As part of the association, he led the program that established scholarships for black journalism students and helped raise millions of dollars for education. Macdonald was hired by the association, now called the Newspaper Association of America, in 1963. In 1976, he became director for the Interstate Natural Gas Association of America before he retired in 1983.
