Matthew B. Crawford, best-selling author and philosopher of work, has noted that the measure of value a company gives to a job is how well it is measured by task performance. Sadly, the very fact that the industry measures achievement in the newsroom by the non-work-related considerations of gender and ethnicity suggest that there is very little regard for newsroom jobs.
