By: E&P Staff The Donald W. Reynolds National Center for Business Journalism has announced a fellowship program for 12 professional journalists with at least two years of business journalism experience.
The fellowship applies to a four-day seminar of "intensive study in financials and accounting" held in Phoenix, Jan. 5-8, 2010.
This is the third annual "Strictly Financials Seminar" taking place at Arizona State University's Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
The fellowships cover the lodging, most meals, training and materials with a $500 stipend for travel expenses.
Walt Bogdanich, business investigations editor for The New York Times, and James Gentry, journalism professor at the University of Kansas, will lead the sessions covering stock markets and bonds to financial statements and company research.
"We're offering this seminar in answer to requests from many participants in our one-day workshops who want to raise their sophistication level in all financial aspects of business coverage," Andrew Leckey, president of the Reynolds Center, said in a statement.
Interested applicants must provide in Word documents the following:
*A letter explaining why they should be selected and how the training will help them in their work.
*A resume
*A one-paragraph bio
*A letter of support from their editor outlining the organization's reasons or wanting the applicant to go through the training
*And a J-Peg formatted head shot
