ASNE Appoints First Web Editors to Board

Posted
By: Joe Strupp For the first time in its history, the American Society of News Editors has placed two Web editors on its board of directors.

Politico Editor-in-Chief John Harris and Dallas Morning News Deputy Managing Editor/Interactive Anthony Moor were named to the board by ASNE President Martin Kaiser.

The appointments were made under special provisions approved by the organization's membership earlier this year "to reach out to news executives beyond the group's print newspaper roots," according to an announcement.

"I am ecstatic that John and Anthony have committed to join us and share their expertise as ASNE and journalism transform in new and exciting ways," Kaiser, who is editor of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, said in a statement. "We are in the midst of a critical shift fueled by emerging technology and changing reader habits. ASNE is committed to meeting the challenge of delivering quality journalism in ways that best meet the needs of our democracy."

The addition of the Web editors is one of several changes the group membership approved earlier this year that included allowing members from online news outlets, non-daily publications, and academia. ASNE also replaced the "Newspaper" in its name with "News."
