Benefit for Family of Afghan-Born Cartoonist Who Died in Canada

By: E&P Staff A benefit to aid the family of late editorial cartoonist Said Shiraga Rahimi will be held June 23 at The Pearl Company art gallery in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

Rahimi, who left Afghanistan for Canada after his cartoons angered Taliban leaders, died this January at the age of 35 in Hamilton when a train struck his van as he was delivering pizzas to help support his family. He left a wife and seven children.

Editorial cartoonists scheduled to speak at the benefit include Graeme MacKay of The Hamilton Spectator, Brian Gable of The Globe and Mail in Toronto, and Terry Mosher (aka "Aislin") of The Gazette in Montreal. Also, 40 of Rahimi's cartoons will be displayed.
