AFRO-AMERICAN NEWSPAPERS, a 101-year-old organization, has begun directly selling national accounts.
Advertising in Afro-American newspapers, which include papers in Baltimore, Washington and Richmond, previously had been sold through New York-based Amalgamated Publishers Inc.
Under the new plan, Afro-American sales reps that sold only local or regional space will target national accounts as well. The United States will be divided into three territories, and each office will handle selling for that territory. Also, advertisers may call 1-800-AFRO-892 for service. Frances Murphy Draper, president of the group, said there will be no price differential between local and national ad rates.
