By: Joe Strupp The Blade of Toledo, Ohio has found more questionable photographs by former photographer Allan Detrich, who resigned last weekend after admitting he doctored an image that ran in the paper.
Assistant Managing Editor LuAnn Sharp told E&P Thursday that a review of Detrich?s work since the beginning of 2007 found other suspicious photos that should not have run because they "were not truthful representations of what happened in the field."
"I can confirm that we did find other photos that should not have been submitted and we will try our best to explain that to readers," Sharp said, adding that a Sunday story would reveal the findings. "We are still putting it together."
Sharp would not reveal how many more questionable photos were found. Rumors at the paper have at least several dozen questionable images among those in the recent review.
Last week, Detrich admitted that he doctored a photo that ran March 31 on the Bluffton University baseball team, but claimed it was an accident. He said he had meant to submit an unaltered version of the photo and was saving the doctored version for his files.
Sharp said all of Detrich?s work, dating back to his start at the Blade in 1989, has been frozen from re-publication. The Associated Press also has removed at least 50 of Detrich's photos that are in the AP files.
Detrich could not immediately be reached for comment Thursday. Photo District News reported earlier this week that, in an interview with Detrich, the photographer was asked if other problematic photos would be found. At that time, he said, ?I don't know what they're going to find. I've put that behind me."
