'Boston Globe' Launches New Digital Edition

Posted
By: E&P Staff The Boston Globe is launching a new digital version called GlobeReader.

GlobeReader is available to download to a desktop, laptop or netbook and maintains the look of the print product. This version replaces the "preview edition" that the Globe made available this past summer free of charge. The new digital edition now includes comics, sports scores, weather and the daily crossword.

Access to the GlobeReader requires a weekly subscription fee of $4.98. The paper is also offering a bundled package for the same price that includes the Sunday print edition. Current seven-day Globe print subscribers get GlobeReader at no additional cost.

"Reader response to the preview edition of the GlobeReader has been very encouraging," Chris Mayer, the Globe's senior vice president, circulation and operations, said in a statement. "It is important for our business to offer Globe news and information on a variety of platforms that appeal to a variety of market segments."

GlobeReader was built with Adobe Flex and Adobe AIR and runs on Windows, Macintosh and Linux.
