Bush Picks Former 'WSJ' Editorialist for Chief Speechwriter

Posted
By: (AP) President Bush has a new chief speechwriter: former newspaper editorial writer Bill McGurn, more recently a media company executive.

McGurn previously served as an executive at Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. Before that, he was chief editorial writer for The Wall Street Journal and a member of its editorial board. Earlier in his career, he served as the Washington bureau chief for National Review.

"Bill McGurn is an accomplished writer, with extensive experience in foreign affairs and economic policy. He will make an excellent addition to my speechwriting team," Bush said in a statement.

McGurn replaces Michael Gerson, who is now assistant to the president for policy and strategic planning.
