Camilla Velasquez joins The New York Times as the new general manager of NYT Cooking

Posted

An entrepreneurial and accomplished leader, Camilla will lead the NYT Cooking mission as we aim to help people understand the world through food and become the definitive subscription for every person who loves to cook. She’ll be responsible for the vision, strategy, operations and results of the NYT Cooking mission in close partnership with Emily Weinstein, Food and Cooking editor, and the Cooking newsroom team. Camilla will also have Michael Linares, head of product for NYT Cooking, and the Cooking Product team reporting to her.

Camilla brings nearly two decades of experience in product, strategy, M&A and marketing, most recently serving as senior vice president for product at Justworks, a fast growing HR technology company that provides small businesses and their employees with access to large company benefits and tools. In her eight years at Justworks, she helped scale the company from 10 people to over 1000 and led the product, product marketing, insights and design teams responsible for their multi-product portfolio. Camilla has also held product and product marketing leadership roles at Etsy and American Express.

A believer in the NYT Cooking mission and a lifelong fan of The Times, in her words: “I’m excited to work on a beloved Cooking product suite, pursue ambitious goals, and nurture the Cooking team’s growth and inclusive culture. Cooking, to me, is the way family and friends come together, and a meditative activity that supports mental health and recovery. Food is also a way people learn and get introduced to cultures they may not otherwise be familiar with, and being that gateway for people across the globe really energizes me.”

Please join me in welcoming Camilla to The Times!
